Messages from the Superintendent

September 23, 2021

Dear FMS community,

Please join me in congratulating Mesa Verde Elementary students and staff, who were recognized for their school's overall academic performance with a 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools award. A special ceremony will be held in Washington, DC in early November to honor all the national 325 winners. Mesa Verde's award is special as it highlights exemplary schools that have closed the achievement gaps between student groups and all students.

Even as I write to celebrate Mesa Verde's students and staff for this remarkable achievement, I also write to share that great work is taking place all across the district. For example, Ladera del Norte's 2019 Blue Ribbon honor, Northeast Elementary School's recognition as a National Title 1 School just a few years ago, and San Juan College High School's listing as one of the top academic schools in the state are proof positive that high-quality instruction is taking place throughout the district. The list goes on to include Piedra Vista and Farmington High, both who are listed on US News & World Report's Best High School Rankings. In celebrating one, we celebrate the work of all.

As a school district and community, we can share this moment with deep appreciation to you all for your exceptional service and commitment to excellence. Working together, we are #risingtoexcellenceineverypursuit.

Dr. Eugene Schmidt
Superintendent of Farmington Municipal Schools
