The following is a courtesy post from San Juan Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) and the City of Farmington:

FARMINGTON, NM (March 19, 2020– It is critical that everyone know that those without symptoms of COVID-19 infection - those symptoms being  fever, cough, body aches, sore throat, runny nose and any other flu/cold-like symptoms– do not need testing for COVID-19.

“In order to best serve our community during the COVID-19 national emergency, we are asking the community for their support in helping us serve the most vulnerable by not coming to the testing assessment area unless they are exhibiting symptoms. It is important that we come together to serve everyone. The safety of our caregivers and community is our highest priority.” said Jeff Bourgeois, SJRMC President and CEO.

Testing needs to be prioritized for those with symptoms of COVID-19 infection: fever, cough, body aches, sore throat, runny nose and any other flu/cold-like symptoms. Workplaces should not mandate that employees get tested for COVID-19 UNLESS employees are displaying symptoms: fever, cough, or shortness of breath.  If a patient comes to the assessment and symptoms are not present, you will not be tested. Testing is at the discretion and judgement of the provider performing the assessment.  Please place your trust in us as medical professionals who are working so hard to protect and treat our community and only come to the assessment if you are currently exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. It is also critical that those who DO have symptoms of COVID-19 do NOT enter medical facilities without first contacting them, especially emergency departments.Unless you have serious, emergent symptoms, you should not enter emergency departments.

The next assessment will take place on Friday, March 20.
